Ian Campbell  29th June 2012

IAN CAMPBELL - Great News.   On 31st October 2009 the bands lead guitarist Ian Campbell was involved in an horrific car accident on the way to a gig at Pyrford Social Club. In fact he lost so much blood that he effectively had a minor stroke in the operating theatre which severely affected him.  Ian has been to some dark places since then - he no longer has the use of his left arm - which would have stopped any other guitar player dead in his tracks - and he has lost some peripheral vision on his left hand side, leaving him registered as blind.  But Ian is one of Britain's leading guitar talents and he doesn't give in easily.  He has persevered and after three years of struggle, and with encouragement by the Nordoff Robbins Foundation, he is planning to return to the music scene!  He has mastered the art of playing his guitar one handed on an open tuning, and his new style still conveys his soul - which has always been the essence of Ian's prodigious talent. He is currently rehearsing supported by Colin Earl on keyboards, Les Calvert on bass and Simon Baker on drums.

Ian made his debut public appearance as a guest of The King Earl Boogie Band at the Sundowners picnic gig.  Ian is optimistic for his future and that of his newly formed band.  When he does eventually start back on the road his gigs will be advertised on www.IfTheDevil.com and on his own site at www.IanCampbellBlues.com .

Colin Earl has made the charts again 38 years after "In The Summertime" - he spent February 2010 in Florida with FOGHAT, laying down some final tracks for their new release, called LAST TRAIN HOME.  When released the record soared to number five in the US Download Charts.

Colin visited the USA several times in 2010 to launch the record and he played three major festivals with FOGHAT during the Summer; and in December he joined FOGHAT to play at the World famous Iridium Club in New York.

The record rapidly climbed the US "airplay" charts (most plays on the radio) and on 25th July 2010 it peaked at number 5 in the chart !

WELCOME GORDON VAUGHAN

GORDON VAUGHAN joined the band in 2010 initially as a "dep" for Ian Campbell , but as the extent of Ian's injuries became clear Gordon has become a full time member of the band and Lead Guitarist with the KEBB.  Gordon is an eloquent guitarist with a real soul feel for his Stratocaster.

Ian is a very difficult act to follow - but Gordon is fitting in well.

MEETINGS WITH REMARKABLE (BLUES) MEN

2010 saw a memorable UK tour by BOB HALL and DAVE PEABODY

Pianist Bob Hall and guitarist Dave Peabody performed and recounted tales about the bluesmen they have met during fifty years of playing the blues.

From the 1950’s onwards visiting American blues stars have toured the UK in the company of British musicians who in turn have absorbed the blues spirit that gives the music its gritty intensity. Multi-award winners Bob Hall (Piano, mandolin, vocals) and Dave Peabody (guitar, harmonica, vocals) have had the experience of learning from many blues originals during thousands of miles travelling around U.K. and the U.S.A. John Lee Hooker, Howlin’ Wolf, Honeyboy Edwards, Charlie Musselwhite and a host of other blues giants have befriended Hall and Peabody giving them the kind of insight worth more than a lifetime spent listening to records.

Hall and Peabody are the foremost UK exponents of traditional blues styles. In Meetings With Remarkable (Blues) Men they perform the music of their friends and mentors telling stories of their lives and travels… some poignant, some hilarious… but all from their own personal experiences.

CLASSIC BLUES TOUR

DAVE PEABODY toured the UK with Blues Legend, David "Honeyboy" Edwards in May 2008.

Honeyboy is nearly 93 years old and was a contemporary of Robert Johnson among others.  The tour culminated with a sell-out show at London's 100 Club on 27th May and was followed up with an interview by Paul Jones for his BBC Monday night blues programme.   The interview, which also featured Dave Peabody, was broadcast on 28th July 2008.

Dave provided the "warm up" as well as accompanying Honeyboy during his sessions.

The 250 Most Valuable Records Of Our Time
A recent issue of RECORD COLLECTOR magazine (issue 330) has a cover feature listing the 250 most valuable records of our time.  Members of THE KING EARL BOOGIE BAND get a mention !
STATUS QUO - with their famous drummer, our own JOHN COGHLAN, are listed twice.  Their withdrawn single Technicolour Dreams (1968) is 76 on the list and stock copies sell for £1000.  Fascinatingly, there are more demo copies than real stock copies available - a demo copy only raises £300.
LEVEE CAMP MOAN - featuring IAN CAMPBELL are 212 in the list with copies of their Live At Peacock Farm LP going for £600.

Blues In Britain -  November 2006 edition

This respected blues magazine includes a major feature interview with COLIN EARL in its November 2006 edition.  The interview is reproduced more or less verbatim and Colin revealed lots about his career development, his personal influences, his aspirations for the King Earl Boogie Band and at long last - after thirty four years of silence - his version of why Mungo Jerry broke up.

The interview, by Fran Leslie,  editor of Blues in Britain,  is the cover feature and is accompanied by some excellent photographs by Richard Brayshaw - including two full page portraits as well as the front cover portrait.
