MEETINGS WITH REMARKABLE (BLUES) MEN

2010 sees a UK tour by BOB HALL and DAVE PEABODY - dates in the gig list

Pianist Bob Hall and guitarist Dave Peabody perform and recount tales about the bluesmen they have met during fifty years of playing the blues.

From the 1950’s onwards visiting American blues stars have toured the UK in the company of British musicians who in turn have absorbed the blues spirit that gives the music its gritty intensity. Multi-award winners Bob Hall (Piano, mandolin, vocals) and Dave Peabody (guitar, harmonica, vocals) have had the experience of learning from many blues originals during thousands of miles travelling around U.K. and the U.S.A. John Lee Hooker, Howlin’ Wolf, Honeyboy Edwards, Charlie Musselwhite and a host of other blues giants have befriended Hall and Peabody giving them the kind of insight worth more than a lifetime spent listening to records.

Hall and Peabody are the foremost UK exponents of traditional blues styles. In Meetings With Remarkable (Blues) Men they perform the music of their friends and mentors telling stories of their lives and travels… some poignant, some hilarious… but all from their own personal experiences.

Meetings With Remarkable (Blues) Men will be accompanied by an exhibition of Dave’s evocative photos depicting some of the bluesmen featured in this entertaining and informative song and storytelling show.

IAN CAMPBELL BULLETIN   27/12/09

27/12/09  Ian is now convalescing - no more updates for a while.

We were all worried when Ian Campbell didn't arrive for the gig at Pyrford on 31st October, and I'm sad to have to report that he was involved in a serious car accident on his way to the gig that evening.

The website is not an appropriate place to publish details of his injuries or even to disclose which hospital he is in, but I will endeavour to keep readers up to date on this page with the progress of his recovery

8th November 2009 : Ian has regained consciousness but remains in intensive care.

16th November 2009 : Pleased to report that Ian now on a regular ward in hospital. He is stable and brighter. He has suffered a blood clot which is currently disabling his left hand, but he is expected to recover from this.

29th November 2009 : Ian is expected to be discharged soon and referred for physio. The leg - which was broken in two places - is mending well, but he is still having problems with his left hand. He has regained his sense of humour! A good sign.

6th December 2009 : Ian is out of bed and has managed to stand upright (he has one leg pinned in two places, so that is quite an achievement after only four weeks.)

8th December 2009 : Ian has been moved from hospital to a convalescence home where he is beginning the long task of regaining his full health.

16th December 2009 : Ian is doing OK, but it will be a long haul; till he's performing again.

ANOTHER CLASSIC BLUES TOUR !

In November 2008 DAVE PEABODY toured the UK with another Blues Legend, CHARLIE MUSSELWHITE.

The highlight of the UK tour was a performance at The 100 Club in London's Oxford Street on 19th November, which was recorded live by the BBC.

The recordings were broadcast on THE PAUL JONES RADIO SHOW (BBC2) on Monday 12th January 2009

CLASSIC BLUES TOUR

DAVE PEABODY toured the UK with Blues Legend, David "Honeyboy" Edwards in May 2008.

Honeyboy is nearly 93 years old and was a contemporary of Robert Johnson among others.  The tour culminated with a sell-out show at London's 100 Club on 27th May and was followed up with an interview by Paul Jones for his BBC Monday night blues programme.   The interview, which also featured Dave Peabody, was broadcast on 28th July 2008.

Dave provided the "warm up" as well as accompanying Honeyboy during his sessions.

The 250 Most Valuable Records Of Our Time
A recent issue of RECORD COLLECTOR magazine (issue 330) has a cover feature listing the 250 most valuable records of our time.  Members of THE KING EARL BOOGIE BAND get a mention !
STATUS QUO - with their famous drummer, our own JOHN COGHLAN, are listed twice.  Their withdrawn single Technicolour Dreams (1968) is 76 on the list and stock copies sell for £1000.  Fascinatingly, there are more demo copies than real stock copies available - a demo copy only raises £300.
LEVEE CAMP MOAN - featuring IAN CAMPBELL are 212 in the list with copies of their Live At Peacock Farm LP going for £600.

Blues In Britain -  November 2006 edition

This respected blues magazine includes a major feature interview with COLIN EARL in its November 2006 edition.  The interview is reproduced more or less verbatim and Colin revealed lots about his career development, his personal influences, his aspirations for the King Earl Boogie Band and at long last - after thirty four years of silence - his version of why Mungo Jerry broke up.

The interview, by Fran Leslie,  editor of Blues in Britain,  is the cover feature and is accompanied by some excellent photographs by Richard Brayshaw - including two full page portraits as well as the front cover portrait.

You can learn more about Blues in Britain at www.bluesinbritain.org .
